Cognizant has opened a new AI Lab and a Cognizant Moment Studio in Bengaluru, deepening its India presence as the company accelerates its $1 billion generative AI investment plan announced in 2023.
The new hub positions India at the centre of Cognizant’s AI builder strategy, which aims to push enterprise adoption of multi-agent systems, responsible AI and advanced decisioning tools.
The facilities extend the work of Cognizant’s AI Lab in San Francisco, which recently secured its 61st US patent. The Bengaluru AI Lab and the Moment Studio will support research and development for business ready AI systems and next generation digital experience platforms.
The company said the combined setup will help clients move from prototypes to production grade AI systems faster.
Ravi Kumar S, CEO of Cognizant, said the company’s role lies in connecting platforms, partners and talent to help enterprises derive clear value from AI. “Cognizant plays a pivotal role in enterprise AI by acting as an ‘AI builder,’ bringing together our platforms, partnerships and highly skilled workforce to bridge infrastructure investment and business value,” he said.
The company claims that the Bengaluru hub will house PhD level scientists and AI engineers working on applied research in multi-agent systems, trustworthy decisioning and responsible AI.
Cognizant said the work will contribute to its IP portfolio through frameworks, reusable components and experiential platforms.
Babak Hodjat, chief AI officer at Cognizant, called the new lab a major expansion of the company’s research footprint. He said Bengaluru’s engineering talent will help scale research in reliable and inter operable agent systems, evolutionary AI and trustworthy decision making, areas that form the core of its Neuro AI platform suite.
The Moment Studio adds a design capability to the hub. Benjamin Wiener, global head of Cognizant Moment, said the studio focuses on creating digital experiences that blend emotional insight with strong engineering. He said this approach will help build intelligent and effective customer facing systems.
Cognizant said the India AI Lab will also work with leading universities to advance joint research programs, offer real world experimentation environments and create internship opportunities for students working in applied AI.
